ACMA Issues Formal Warnings to Unlicenced Operators

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has issued formal warnings to four offshore gambling operators, reinforcing its strict enforcement stance against unlicenced online services. The companies involved—Digibrite S.R.L. (The Pokies), Just Entertainment B.V. (Lucky Ones7), Stellar Ltd. (Spinit), and Hollycorn N.V. (Slot Lounge)—were found to be offering gambling services to Australian residents without the required licences under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001.

The regulator emphasized that unlicenced platforms bypass the consumer protections mandated by Australian law, placing players at significant risk. While this week’s warnings do not include site-blocking measures, ACMA has previously blocked over 1,000 websites and warned that repeated non-compliance may trigger stricter enforcement actions. Stellar Ltd., operator of Spinit, has been warned before, demonstrating that ACMA continuously monitors offshore operators to ensure compliance with national standards.

Since 2017, over 220 offshore operators have exited the Australian market, highlighting the regulator’s ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and legal gambling environment. ACMA stressed that even platforms appearing legitimate may not provide adequate protections, urging consumers to check licencing status before engaging in any online gambling activity.

This latest move is part of a broader campaign to protect Australian players from illegal services that often encourage harmful betting behaviour and bypass responsible gambling tools. By issuing formal warnings, ACMA reinforces its mission to uphold the integrity of the country’s regulated gambling sector, reminding operators and players alike of the importance of licenced, safe, and responsible gaming. The regulator’s actions send a clear message: compliance is mandatory, and illegal operations will continue to face disruption.
