Ainsworth Game Technology’s CEO, Harald Neumann, faces mounting uncertainty after the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) recommended he withdraw his application to renew his state gaming licence. The decision, revealed following a board meeting on 9 October, puts Neumann’s future at Ainsworth in doubt and has triggered an internal review of his position.

Under Nevada’s regulatory system, gaming executives must renew their licences every five years to ensure ongoing compliance and suitability. While this is a standard procedure, the NGCB’s recommendation signals concerns about Neumann’s standing within the jurisdiction.

Ainsworth chairman Danny Gladstone confirmed that the company’s board is now reviewing Neumann’s role, promising further updates once a decision is reached.

This development follows previous scrutiny faced by Neumann earlier in 2024, when he was investigated by Austria’s Economic and Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (WKStA) in relation to his former role as CEO of Novomatic. Although most investigations were closed with no findings of wrongdoing, the matter remains sensitive given Ainsworth’s recent corporate challenges.

The news comes amid heightened shareholder tension, particularly after Novomatic’s attempt to acquire the remaining stake in Ainsworth earlier this year, a move criticized by minority shareholders as undervaluing the company.

Industry observers say the outcome of the NGCB’s review could have significant implications for Ainsworth’s executive stability and regulatory reputation across key jurisdictions.
