Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) and the Financial Services Authority (OJK) have jointly announced the freezing of 23,929 bank accounts linked to online gambling operations. The move is part of a broader national effort to dismantle illegal betting networks and prevent the misuse of public welfare funds. Minister Meutya Hafid highlighted that this step reflects the government’s firm commitment to eradicating activities that harm both the economy and the public.

Authorities have confirmed that account detections were based on online surveillance and citizen reports. To support this effort, the government has encouraged citizens to report suspicious gambling activity through official platforms such as aduankonten.id and cekrekening.id.

From October 2024 to September 2025, over 2.8 million gambling-related content items were removed from Indonesia’s digital landscape. Komdigi is also testing a new compliance monitoring system to strengthen content regulation across platforms.

In a related measure, the Ministry of Social Affairs has suspended welfare benefits for families identified as participating in online gambling, affecting more than 300,000 beneficiaries. Authorities stated that the misuse of welfare funds has caused significant economic leakage and social disruption.

Law enforcement agencies are conducting spot checks among police officers to ensure no internal involvement, while the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre continues to trace financial flows tied to gambling.

Indonesia’s coordinated action marks one of the strongest government-led anti-gambling initiatives in Asia, underscoring the nation’s zero-tolerance approach to illegal betting and financial misconduct.
