Gammix Limited has had its objections to a €19.7m fine formally rejected by the Netherlands Gambling Authority (KSA), maintaining the record-breaking penalty for offering unlicensed online gambling to Dutch players. The fine, the largest ever imposed in the Netherlands, builds upon a prior €4m sanction and covers multiple websites, including rantcasino.com, betoriginal.com, bluvegas.com, and others.
The Malta-based operator disputed the fine, claiming the enforcement measures were excessive and the methodology used to calculate its revenues was flawed. According to the KSA, Gammix generated an estimated €52.4m in gross gaming revenue from Dutch players in 2022, with global revenue approaching €1.8bn. The regulator emphasised that the penalty remains well below the statutory cap of 10% of global turnover, deeming it proportionate.
An advisory committee reviewed Gammix’s objections and found no grounds to mitigate the penalty. The KSA highlighted that publishing sanctions serves the public interest, ensuring transparency and informing consumers of the risks associated with unlicensed operators. This ruling underscores the authority’s commitment to regulatory enforcement and the protection of players in the Dutch iGaming market.
Gammix retains the right to appeal the fine before the District Court of The Hague. The operator may also explore Malta’s Bill 55, which could limit the enforcement of judgments from other EU jurisdictions. The company has not publicly confirmed its next steps, leaving its approach to the fine uncertain.
This decision sends a clear message to operators across Europe: compliance with licensing and regulatory obligations is mandatory, and national authorities will continue to enforce transparency and accountability in the iGaming sector.
