New Jersey lawmakers just approved a sweeping tax hike on iGaming, sports betting, and daily fantasy sports, pushing all three categories to a new 19.75% rate.
The move, passed by both Senate and Assembly, represents nearly a 100% increase for DFS operators. It’s part of a broader trend in 2025, with Maryland, Louisiana, and Illinois also raising tax burdens on gaming.
Gov. Phil Murphy is expected to sign the bill into law, cementing NJ’s position as the fourth state to impose higher taxes this year.
Operators must now recalibrate profitability strategies to match the new economic reality.
