Casino Landmark, the final remaining satellite casino in Macau, ceased operations at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, marking the end of a three-year transition period mandated by the Macau government. The shutdown closes a decades-old chapter in the city’s gaming industry as regulatory reforms reshape the land-based casino landscape.

Located inside the New Orient Landmark Hotel on the Macau peninsula, Casino Landmark operated under the gaming licence of SJM Holdings and was once among the most profitable satellite casinos in the market. The venue’s final moments drew crowds of gamblers, employees, and onlookers, with many gathering to witness the closure and livestream the event as signage was covered and notices were posted regarding chip redemption.

The closure took effect as the grace period granted to satellite casinos expired on December 31. Casino Landmark was the last such property still in operation, following the earlier shutdown of other satellite venues as part of the government’s restructuring of Macau’s casino sector.

SJM Holdings previously confirmed that all locally hired employees at Casino Landmark would remain employed by the group. Staff are expected to be reassigned to other SJM-operated casinos to perform gaming-related roles, depending on operational requirements. The operator said the transition was designed to protect local employment while aligning with regulatory changes.

The end of Casino Landmark signals the conclusion of Macau’s satellite casino model, a structure that allowed smaller venues to operate under the licences of major concessionaires. With the transition period complete, Macau’s gaming industry now enters a new phase focused on directly operated casinos and a more centralised concession framework.
