Macau just recorded its strongest casino revenue since the pandemic—proof that recovery momentum is here to stay.
August gross gaming revenue (GGR) in Macau reached MOP 22.15 billion (US$2.76 billion), according to the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau. This represents a 12.2% year-on-year increase and a 0.13% rise over July, exceeding government projections of MOP19 billion. Analysts note that this is the strongest GGR performance since Covid-19, and the third consecutive month of double-digit annual growth.
Key drivers include high hotel occupancy (up to 90%), non-gaming attractions like concerts and sporting events, and improving consumer sentiment. While September may see a seasonal slowdown, forecasts suggest double-digit growth will continue, supported by easing US-China tensions, increased travel, and expanded marketing initiatives. Looking ahead, sustained recovery in base mass and hotel capacity is expected to fuel further growth through 2027.
