PointsBet appoints Andrew Catterall as next Group CEO
PointsBet Holdings Limited has announced that Andrew Catterall will become Group Chief Executive Officer from February 1, 2026. He will succeed co-founder Sam Swanell, who will remain closely involved with the company during and after the handover period.
Catterall currently serves as CEO of PointsBet Australia, a role he has held since joining the business in 2022. During this time, he has overseen the company’s core domestic operations and product offering. Prior to PointsBet, Catterall was Chief Executive Officer of Racing.com, where he worked across media, racing and digital platforms.
The leadership update follows a significant change in PointsBet’s ownership structure. In October, Japanese technology firm Mixi Inc., through its subsidiary Mixi Australia, completed an off-market takeover that resulted in Mixi securing 66.4 percent of the voting power in the ASX-listed bookmaker.
Despite stepping down from the Group CEO role, Swanell will continue as an Executive Director on the board and act in an advisory capacity. Swanell was one of PointsBet’s three co-founders when the company was established in 2015 and has led it through market expansion and its public listing.
PointsBet Chairman Brett Paton thanked Swanell for his leadership, noting his role in guiding the company through every stage of its development. Paton said Swanell’s continued involvement would allow PointsBet to retain valuable experience and institutional knowledge.
As Group CEO, Catterall will oversee PointsBet’s operations in Australia and Canada, with responsibility for strategy execution, technology development, regulatory compliance and customer growth. The company said the planned transition is intended to ensure continuity and stability as it continues to operate in highly regulated wagering markets.
