Massachusetts Gaming Commission Replaces GameSense with PlayWell Across Casinos and Betting Platforms
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) has officially launched PlayWell, a new responsible gaming and player health program designed to support casino and sports wagering patrons across the state. The initiative replaces the previous GameSense program and will now appear across all Massachusetts casino properties and licensed sports betting platforms.
PlayWell is intended to provide players with accessible tools, educational resources, and support services that help them remain informed, aware, and in control of their gambling activities. The program forms part of the state’s broader effort to strengthen responsible gaming oversight while maintaining a safe and sustainable gaming industry.
Massachusetts Council on Gaming and Health to Administer PlayWell
The PlayWell program is fully owned by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission and will be administered by the Massachusetts Council on Gaming and Health, an organization that has long collaborated with the Commission on player protection initiatives.
Massachusetts Gaming Commission Chair Jordan Maynard said the program builds on years of research and policy development aimed at improving responsible gaming practices.
According to Maynard, the initiative reflects more than a decade of collaboration between regulators, public health experts, and industry stakeholders working to better understand gambling behavior and reduce gambling-related harms.
Officials say PlayWell represents the next stage in Massachusetts’ responsible gaming strategy as the state’s casino and sports wagering markets continue to expand. The expansion follows strong betting momentum in the state, where regulators recently confirmed a new all-time sports betting handle.
PlayWell Hubs Introduced Across Massachusetts Casinos
A central component of the new initiative is the creation of PlayWell Hubs at every casino property in Massachusetts. These dedicated spaces provide patrons with a place to access responsible gaming information and speak directly with trained advisors.
Visitors to the hubs can learn about the rules and mechanics of casino games, receive guidance on responsible gambling practices, or take a break from gaming activities if needed. The hubs are designed to make support services easily accessible within the casino environment.
In addition to in-person assistance, the PlayWell program offers support through online resources and phone-based services, ensuring that players can access help through multiple channels.
Educational Resources and Self-Exclusion Tools for Players
PlayWell includes a range of tools intended to help players make informed decisions about their gambling activities. These resources include educational guides explaining how casino games work, advisory services provided by trained staff, and access to voluntary self-exclusion programs.
Self-exclusion programs allow individuals to voluntarily restrict their access to casino gambling or sports wagering platforms if they feel they need additional safeguards.
Through these resources, the Commission aims to ensure that gambling remains a form of entertainment while providing support options for individuals who may experience difficulties.
Massachusetts Gaming Commission Strengthens Responsible Gaming Oversight
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission serves as the regulatory authority overseeing casino gaming, sports wagering, and responsible gaming programs across the state. The regulator has also taken firm positions on emerging betting products, including recent warnings related to sports prediction markets, highlighting its broader approach to gaming oversight. The Commission works to ensure that gaming operations maintain integrity, transparency, and strong consumer protections.
With the launch of PlayWell, the Commission continues to strengthen its research-driven responsible gaming framework while supporting a well-regulated and sustainable gaming industry.
