Nevada Super Bowl Handle Falls 11.7%, Hold at 7.4%

The Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) reported in their press release 2026 $133.8 million in wagers across the state’s 186 sportsbooks for Super Bowl 2026, generating $9.89 million in operator win and a 7.4% hold.
While profitability aligned with long-term Super Bowl norms, total handle declined 11.7% from 2025’s record $151.6 million underscoring continued competitive pressure from digital-first jurisdictions.
Margin Stability Masks Handle Contraction
A 7.4% hold sits within Nevada’s historical Super Bowl range and suggests balanced book positioning. By comparison, 2025 delivered an unusually strong $22.1 million win, while 2023 saw margins compress to 2.8%.
This year’s mid-range result indicates limited outsized liability and effective risk distribution, despite a softer betting volume environment.
For operators, the key takeaway is margin resilience rather than volume growth.
Retail Exposure in a Digital Era
Nevada remains one of the few major U.S. markets where retail sportsbooks continue to drive meaningful event handle. However, the year-on-year decline highlights the structural shift toward mobile-dominant states that now capture a larger share of national Super Bowl wagering.
Unlike promotional-heavy online markets, Nevada’s margin profile is less distorted by aggressive bonus spend. The 7.4% hold therefore reflects relatively clean gross gaming revenue performance without heavy promotional offset.
Competitive Positioning
Super Bowl results remain a benchmark indicator for sportsbook risk management and consumer engagement. But Nevada’s trajectory increasingly reflects market maturity rather than expansion.
In a national landscape defined by mobile acquisition spend and multi-state operator scale, Nevada’s Super Bowl figures point to stability not growth.
For policymakers and operators, the message is clear: Nevada retains operational consistency, but handle leadership has permanently shifted elsewhere.
