The Government of Bangladesh has declared a zero-tolerance policy on online gambling, launching one of the region’s most comprehensive regulatory crackdowns under the Cyber Security Act, 2025. The directive prohibits the publication, display, or endorsement of gambling advertisements across all media, including newspapers, online portals, social networks, and ad networks like Google AdSense and Meta Ads.
The government stated that online gambling promotions undermine youth development and threaten the nation’s moral fabric. To address these risks, the National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) has been authorised to monitor, block, and penalise any illegal or unethical online content. Other key agencies, including the BTRC, CID, NTMC, NSI, and Bangladesh Bank, are working in coordination to ensure full compliance.
Advertising agencies, influencers, and content creators are warned against participating in gambling-related promotions. Violators will face legal and financial repercussions under the Cyber Security Act. Citizens have also been encouraged to report any violations directly to the NCSA.
The enforcement follows a year of intensified investigations, including the identification of over 5,000 mobile financial accounts linked to gambling operations. The Bangladesh Bank has also directed financial institutions to adopt AI-powered monitoring to detect suspicious transactions.
Interestingly, Bangladesh has simultaneously recognised esports as an official sport, reinforcing the nation’s intent to promote ethical digital entertainment while maintaining moral oversight. This dual approach highlights Bangladesh’s commitment to a regulated, responsible, and youth-friendly digital environment.
