Allwyn has officially reached the halfway point in its extensive National Lottery terminal upgrade programme, a major step in its £400 million investment to modernise lottery operations across the United Kingdom. To date, more than 22,000 of the new ‘Wave’ terminals have been installed, replacing systems that have been in use since 2009.

These next-generation terminals feature a high-speed processor, a larger tilt-adjustable LCD screen, and both 1D and 2D barcode scanners. Designed for efficiency, they enable faster transactions and an improved in-store experience for players and retailers alike.

The terminal upgrade follows a major technical migration to Scientific Games’ Momentum ecosystem, which now powers operations across 43,500 retail locations the largest such transformation ever seen in the global lottery industry.

According to Jenny Blogg, Allwyn’s Director of Operations, this project forms a core part of Allwyn’s strategy to enhance player engagement, support retail partners, and boost returns to good causes. The company aims to double weekly contributions from £30 million to £60 million by the end of its current licence term.

Allwyn’s progress underscores its broader transformation journey since taking over the National Lottery in February 2024. Beyond the UK, Allwyn continues to expand its international footprint through mergers, acquisitions, and digital investments, positioning itself as one of the leading forces in the global lottery and iGaming industry.
