Integrated resort Crown Perth will introduce mandatory carded play for all electronic gaming machines (EGMs) starting 1 December 2025, completing a key reform from the Perth Casino Royal Commission. The new system requires every player to use a personalised membership card that records play activity and enforces time and loss limits, marking one of the most comprehensive responsible gambling measures in the world.

Players will be limited to a maximum of 12 hours of play per day and 28 hours per week, with mandatory breaks every three hours. Limits can be set individually within these parameters, but any increase will take effect only after a seven-day cooling-off period. Crown Perth’s system also provides monthly activity statements, on-screen tracking, and support from the casino’s dedicated Crown PlaySafe team available 24/7.

The reform is being implemented in collaboration with the Western Australian Government and the Gaming and Wagering Commission, both of which praised the move as a major step forward in reducing gambling harm. WA’s Racing and Gaming Minister Paul Papalia stated that the initiative strengthens safeguards and ensures greater accountability in the gaming environment.

This rollout will make Western Australia the first jurisdiction globally to feature electronic gaming with mandatory carded play and enforceable time and loss limits. Crown Perth CEO Brian Pereira highlighted that carded play empowers guests with control and fosters informed, responsible choices. The initiative, launched during Gambling Harm Awareness Week, sets a new benchmark for casino regulation in Australia and underscores Crown Perth’s long-term commitment to safer gambling.
