Betway Named Manchester United’s Principal Partner in Multi-Year Deal

Betway Becomes Manchester United Principal Partner | iGaming News Today

Super Group’s biggest football deal puts Betway on the training kit, and the reason is written into the CEO’s own words.

Betway will become Manchester United’s Principal Partner and Exclusive Global Betting Partner from the 2026/27 season, Super Group announced on 4 August. The company is calling it its biggest football partnership to date. The Betway Manchester United partnership puts the brand on the men’s and women’s training kits, with prominent presence across matchdays at Old Trafford and the Progress with Unity Stadium. It’s the latest, and largest, in a run of sport investments from the brand, which recently backed the revival of Towcester Racecourse, though this deal operates on an entirely different scale.

Why the Betway Manchester United partnership matters now

Manchester United is one of the most widely followed clubs on earth, and Betway has just secured a multi-year foothold on its kit and its matchdays. For Super Group, that’s a significant piece of football real estate, the biggest, by its own description, that the Betway brand has taken on.

But the interesting part isn’t the size of the club. It’s what Super Group says it’s buying.

What the Betway Manchester United partnership actually involves

The core terms are straightforward. Betway’s logo goes on the training kits of both the men’s and women’s teams. The brand gets prominent matchday presence at Old Trafford and the club’s women’s ground. Supporters are promised competitions and experiences. And the partnership carries a safer gambling component, training and guidance on responsible gambling and betting integrity for players, staff and fans.

Manchester United join a Betway roster that already spans F1, international rugby union, cricket, basketball and tennis. This is the biggest name on that list.

The operator read it’s about geography

Here’s the part operators care about. On Super Group’s own account, this deal is about reach into specific markets, not prestige alone.

Neal Menashe, Chief Executive Officer of Super Group, said the group is “thrilled that our Betway brand will be the Principal Partner and Exclusive Global Betting Partner of one of the world’s biggest football clubs,” adding that United’s “global reach, particularly with their massive fanbase across Africa, aligns perfectly with our key markets.”

That second clause is the whole strategy. Super Group is active across African markets, and it’s telling investors and rivals alike that United’s following there is a core reason for the spend. It fits a pattern, too Betway has been building its profile across the continent for a while now, recently signing Afrobeats star Don Jazzy as it sharpens its marketing there.

Read commercially, the United sponsorship functions as a distribution channel as much as a branding exercise. For any operator weighing a club deal, the takeaway is direct: where a club’s supporters actually are can shape which club you chase, and what you pay.

From the club’s side, Marc Armstrong, Chief Business Officer at Manchester United, framed it as validation. He said the deal’s scale “reflects our growth strategy, the enduring global strength and appeal of Manchester United, and our ability to attract leading brands that want to engage with our vast worldwide fanbase.” Read as commercial signalling, United is telling the market it can still command premium partners, useful positioning for a club under regular scrutiny over its commercial performance.

The caveat worth naming

Two things aren’t in the announcement. Super Group hasn’t disclosed the deal’s value or its exact length beyond “multi-year.” Without those figures, it’s impossible to judge whether this is a landmark spend or simply a sensible one, so treat “biggest football partnership” as scale of profile, not confirmed scale of money. The safer gambling provisions, meanwhile, aren’t incidental. They reflect how football sponsorships involving betting brands are increasingly built.

What this partnership actually delivers for Betway

Strip it back and the payoff is reach. Betway gets its name on the training kit and across matchdays at one of the most globally followed clubs in the game, aimed squarely at the markets Super Group has named as its own. Africa chief among them. The next 6 to 12 months should show how the group turns that branding into actual traction in those regions, sign-ups, brand recall, market share where it competes hardest. If it works, expect fanbase geography, not league table position, to feature more openly in how operators justify the clubs they back. That’s the real test here: not the size of the badge, but whether the map behind it converts.
