Two Betting Exchanges. One Bigger Liquidity Play – Matchbook Completes Its Acquisition of Betdaq
Matchbook, the peer-to-peer betting exchange and market technology business, has completed the acquisition of Betdaq, one of the earliest betting exchanges in the world. The deal, announced on Wednesday 14 October 2026, brings together two operators that have each spent more than two decades building the exchange model.
Betdaq was founded by Dermot Desmond in 2000 and has served exchange bettors for over a quarter of a century. Its existing service, operated by EPS Ltd, will now transition into Matchbook’s platform, with clear dates set for customers to manage the move.
What The Matchbook And Betdaq Deal Actually Involves
The acquisition unifies two of the longest-established names in exchange betting under a single operator. Rather than running two separate pools, Matchbook intends to combine Betdaq’s customer base with its own, merging liquidity into one platform. The company frames this as pairing Betdaq’s heritage with its own pricing, liquidity and technology expertise.
Key Dates Betdaq Customers Need To Know
The practical detail matters most for existing users. The existing Betdaq service will remain open for trading until 21 October 2026 to allow an orderly transition. Customer accounts will stay open for withdrawals until 4 November 2026. Throughout the process, customer funds remain protected in accordance with both operators’ regulatory obligations. Betdaq customers can find key dates, a detailed FAQ and their full set of options at betdaq.com.
Why Deeper Liquidity Matters In Peer-To-Peer Betting
Liquidity is the engine of any betting exchange, and it sits at the centre of Matchbook’s reasoning for the deal. By bringing the two exchanges into a single, deeper pool, Matchbook says customers of both should see tighter spreads, bigger fills and better prices than either exchange could offer alone. These are the company’s stated expectations rather than independently verified results, but the logic is consistent with how exchanges work: the more bettors active in one pool, the easier it is to match wagers at competitive odds.
How The Acquisition Fits Matchbook’s Wider Expansion
The timing reflects renewed momentum behind the peer-to-peer model. Matchbook points to exchange betting and prediction markets, particularly in the United States, bringing market-made pricing to new audiences. The operator has itself expanded in recent years through easyBet, its partnership with easyGroup, and ADI PredictStreet, its entry into prediction markets around the FIFA World Cup 2026. Having run exchange markets for more than twenty years, the Betdaq acquisition reads as a move to consolidate its position at the core of that growth.
Ronan McDonagh, CEO of Matchbook, said: “Betdaq and Matchbook grew up proving the same idea — that bettors get a better deal when prices are made by a market rather than a margin. A quarter of a century on, that idea is winning: exchanges and prediction markets are bringing peer-to-peer pricing to new audiences around the world, and this acquisition deepens the pool at the heart of everything we build.”
He added: “Our first priority through this transition is Betdaq’s customers: their funds are safe, their options are clear, and in one combined pool they should find better prices and deeper liquidity than either exchange could offer alone. Everything we are doing – this deal included – is about making the exchange first choice.”
What Comes Next For The Betting Exchange Market?
The clearest signal here is consolidation: as peer-to-peer pricing and prediction markets expand, pooling liquidity rather than splitting it across rival exchanges becomes the sharper competitive play. For bettors, the payoff Matchbook is promising, tighter spreads and larger fills, will only be proven once both customer bases are trading together in one pool. The broader lesson for the market is that in exchange betting, depth of liquidity, not breadth of brands, is what ultimately decides who offers the better deal.
