The Responsible Online Gaming Association (ROGA) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Responsible Gambling Council (RGC) to launch a pioneering certification programme designed to elevate responsible gambling standards across the online gaming industry. The announcement, made on September 2 at ROGA’s headquarters in McLean, Virginia, marks a significant step toward transforming responsible gaming from a compliance requirement into an independently validated performance standard.

The new programme establishes a structured, evidence-based framework that will evaluate operators on core aspects of player protection. These include self-exclusion mechanisms, player support tools, marketing practices, and staff training protocols. By incorporating independent assessment, the initiative seeks to set a higher bar for accountability and transparency, helping players make informed decisions about the platforms they use.

ROGA Executive Director Dr. Jennifer Shatley highlighted that the programme reflects a long-term industry commitment to sustainable practices and evidence-driven solutions. RGC, with more than four decades of expertise and its trusted RG Check accreditation, provides the backbone for this certification, ensuring consistency and credibility.

For operators, many of whom make up nearly 90% of the US legal sports betting market, the certification represents both a challenge and an opportunity: to integrate player safeguards more deeply into the user experience. RGC CEO Sarah McCarthy emphasized that the collaboration sets a new benchmark for transparency and accountability, paving the way for a more player-focused industry.

This initiative signals a paradigm shift in responsible gambling, reinforcing the broader mission of ROGA to balance innovation with player protection and continuous improvement. By building on evidence-based best practices, the programme strengthens the foundations of a sustainable and trustworthy online gaming ecosystem.
