Kanon Gaming, a Malta-based online casino operator, has seen its fine from the Swedish Gambling Authority (SGA) reduced to SEK4.8m (€435,382). Originally set at SEK7m in June 2024, the penalty was issued for shortcomings in duty of care obligations, specifically related to responsible gambling measures.

The SGA found that Kanon Gaming failed to apply stricter standards for players aged 18–24, a demographic considered more vulnerable to gambling-related harm. The regulator emphasized that the company applied uniform procedures to all players above 18, which it deemed a significant lapse in duty of care. The Administrative Court upheld both the warning and the sanction, confirming the regulator’s position.

Among the platforms affected by the sanction were casinoepic.se, casinogami.se, frejacasino.se, and lokecasino.se. These sites will continue to be closely monitored as part of Sweden’s regulatory oversight.

Despite the violations, Kanon Gaming’s cooperation with the regulator and implementation of corrective measures during the investigation contributed to the reduction of the final penalty. The SGA acknowledged the operator’s proactive stance, which shortened the review timeline.

The case forms part of a broader wave of regulatory enforcement in Sweden, where the authority has taken steps against multiple operators and suppliers for responsible gambling and marketing breaches. Recent penalties against Newera Frozen PTE Limited, Aprodi Limited, and others highlight the regulator’s commitment to stricter oversight.

For operators, the Kanon Gaming case is a clear reminder of the importance of compliance frameworks that address player protection, particularly for younger adults. As Swedish regulators intensify enforcement, companies failing to meet expectations face significant financial and reputational risks.
