Allwyn Names Francesco Rodano as Group Head of Responsible Gaming | iGaming News Today

Allwyn AG has appointed Francesco Rodano as Group Head of Responsible Gaming, handing responsibility for player protection across its brands, products and markets to someone who has worked both sides of the regulated gaming line. The lottery-led company announced the move from its base in Lucerne, Switzerland. It is a straightforward appointment on paper, but the career path behind it says something about where responsible gaming expertise is now being sourced.

Who Francesco Rodano Is and What He Brings to Allwyn

Rodano joins after 10 years at Playtech, where he led a global initiative focused on player protection and long-term business sustainability. During that time he championed the implementation of an award-winning AI-driven behavioural analytics platform, putting technology at the centre of how at-risk play is identified. Before Playtech, he spent nearly a decade as Director of Remote Gaming at Italy’s regulatory authority, Agenzia Dogane e Monopoli (ADM), where he put in place the country’s national online gaming framework and worked with regulators internationally.

What This Responsible Gaming Appointment Actually Involves

Rodano’s mandate is to lead Allwyn’s responsible gaming agenda across the Group. Allwyn’s lottery businesses all meet Level 4 of the World Lottery Association’s responsible gaming framework, the highest level of accreditation available, and the company runs its Play the Right Way campaign across markets. It also recently announced the inaugural recipients of its Allwyn Player Protection Lab award, which provides up to €100,000 of funding to each of two research projects advancing new approaches to player safety. Rodano steps into a platform that is already built, with the brief to extend it at scale.

What Rodano’s Appointment Signals for Allwyn’s Player Protection Strategy

The signal here is in the hire itself. Bringing in someone who put in place a national online gaming framework, then spent a decade applying player protection inside a technology company, places regulatory fluency and product-safety experience together at Group leadership level. Robert Chvátal, CEO of Allwyn, said: “As Allwyn expands its global presence, being responsible isn’t just how we approach business, it is a key part of who we are and our long-term strength. From how we partner, hire and innovate, to how we make games safer, we embed integrity and care across everything we do. Francesco’s appointment and the experience he brings are another clear commitment to that philosophy, and I am delighted to welcome him to Allwyn.” Tatiana Jouanneau, Group Chief Brand Officer, added that Rodano’s leadership would help build “a global entertainment company where great experiences and responsible play go hand in hand.”

The Limits of a Fresh Responsible Gaming Hire at Allwyn

An appointment is an intention, not an outcome. The release describes existing accreditations, an existing campaign and an existing funding programme, all of which predate Rodano’s arrival, so his impact will only be measurable in what changes from here. Rodano himself framed the job as building on what already exists rather than rebuilding it, saying: “I am privileged to be joining Allwyn and to build on the strong responsible gaming platform the company has already put in place across its markets. Player protection is something I live and breathe and I look forward to implementing that passion at scale across Allwyn.” The proof will be in delivery across markets, not in the announcement.

What Comes Next for Responsible Gaming in the Regulated Gaming Market?

The path from regulator to operator is worth watching across the sector. When someone who built a country’s online gaming rules moves into an operator’s senior ranks, it points to player safety being handled as a leadership capability rather than a compliance line item, and it tightens the talent market for exactly this kind of dual-sided experience. For Allwyn, the appointment is a bet that regulatory credibility and technology-led protection belong at the top of the organisation. Whether that becomes an industry pattern will depend on how visibly it changes the player experience, and that is the measure the market should hold it to.
