The Swedish Trade Association for Online Gambling (BOS) has urged the government to launch a new gambling inquiry aimed at strengthening the country’s regulated market. Following a report by the Swedish Gambling Authority showing the legal online gambling market at 85%, BOS warned that unlicensed play remains a pressing concern.
BOS Secretary General Gustaf Hoffstedt emphasized that a broad inquiry could be the most effective way to prevent market leakage ahead of the 2026 elections. Among proposed measures are relaxed bonus regulations and potential ISP/DNS blocking of unlicensed sites, following models implemented in Denmark. While the government is reviewing adjustments to the Gambling Act, BOS contends further action is necessary to achieve the target of 90% channelisation.
