Authorities in Misiones, a province in Northern Argentina, have taken decisive action to block 112 unregulated online gambling websites. The Provincial Institute of Lotteries and Casinos (IPLyC), responsible for overseeing legal gambling activities, requested the intervention to prevent minors from accessing rogue platforms. Judge Martin López of the Civil and Commercial Court of First Instance Number 3 of Posadas issued the order, directing internet service providers to implement the blocks immediately. This action followed a new methodology that allows efficient identification of illegal operators through cooperation with the Cybercrime Prosecutor’s Office and the Attorney General.

The IPLyC plays a central role in monitoring illegal gambling in Misiones, providing residents with reporting tools to flag suspicious sites. These reports feed into broader investigations, supporting stronger enforcement measures. Preventing underage gambling remains a top priority, with public campaigns educating the population about safe and legal gaming options. Regulated websites can be identified by the inclusion of “.bet” or “.ar” in their web addresses, helping players distinguish authorised platforms from illegal ones.

The coordinated effort between judicial authorities and the IPLyC establishes a strong precedent for future crackdowns on illegal operators. This initiative is part of a wider regulatory framework in Argentina, including federal legislation limiting online gambling advertising to protect minors and at-risk groups. While these measures prioritise public health, they also present challenges for sports sponsorships and media revenue streams that previously relied on gaming operators.

By taking proactive steps against illegal online gambling, Misiones sets an example for other regions in Argentina. The IPLyC’s efforts demonstrate how collaboration, reporting tools, and strict legal enforcement can enhance consumer protection and uphold responsible gaming standards. These measures reinforce the country’s commitment to shielding minors and vulnerable populations from the risks associated with unregulated gambling.
