“Macau’s gaming industry is set to exceed 2025 expectations after a record-breaking Golden Week that reignited confidence in the city’s tourism-driven economy.”
Macau welcomed 1.14 million visitors during the extended Golden Week period from 1–8 October 2025, representing a 17% year-over-year increase and surpassing pre-pandemic levels by 8%. According to a new report from CreditSights, this surge signals a strong recovery trajectory for Macau’s gaming and tourism sectors heading into the final quarter of the year.
Mainland Chinese tourists accounted for 83% of arrivals, underlining the importance of the domestic travel market to Macau’s economic performance. The busiest day, 4 October 2025, saw a record 191,000 tourist entries, marking the city’s highest-ever daily figure.
While September’s gross gaming revenue (GGR) growth moderated to 6% year-over-year, largely due to disruptions from Super Typhoon Ragasa, the year-to-date total reached MOP 181.3 billion (€20.6 billion), around 80% of the annual target. To meet the government’s projection of MOP 228 billion (€25.9 billion), Macau needs to maintain a monthly average of MOP 15.6 billion (€1.8 billion), well below the current quarterly average of MOP 20.1 billion (€2.3 billion).
Analysts remain optimistic that continued visitor momentum and strong spending patterns could push full-year GGR beyond expectations, possibly reaching MOP 240 billion (€27.3 billion).
The data reinforces Macau’s sustained recovery following pandemic-related challenges, with the city once again asserting its position as the world’s leading gaming and entertainment hub.
