The Massachusetts Gaming Commission has confirmed a record-breaking $800.3 million sports betting handle for September, making it the state’s highest monthly total since legal wagering began. This new milestone surpasses the previous record of $788.3 million set in January 2025, marking a 1.5% increase and signaling robust momentum for the state’s iGaming sector.
The surge represents a 46.8% rise from August and a 17.9% increase compared to September 2024. Online sportsbooks were the primary driver of growth, contributing $789.4 million in wagers, enough to set a record on their own while retail sportsbooks added $10.9 million. Despite the higher handle, taxable gaming revenue reached $52.3 million, down from January’s record $96.4 million, due largely to a lower hold percentage of 6.54%.
Among operators, DraftKings continued its dominance, generating $26.1 million in revenue from $409.6 million in wagers. FanDuel followed with $15.9 million from $192.6 million, while BetMGM, Fanatics, and ESPN Bet rounded out the top five. Retail activity was led by Encore Boston Harbor, which reported $221,492 in revenue from $5.1 million in bets.
Beyond sports betting, Massachusetts’ casino sector posted $95.7 million in gaming revenue down 8.9% month-on-month but up 3.9% year-on-year. Combined, the state collected $37.8 million in taxes from sports betting and casino gaming.
This record underscores the maturity of the Massachusetts market, where strong online performance and expanding operator competition continue to fuel growth in one of the U.S. iGaming industry’s most dynamic states.
