Exclusive: Tequity Founder Krzysztof Opałka on AI, Technology and the Future of iGaming Innovation
Technology has become one of the biggest competitive advantages in the global iGaming industry. As operators and suppliers race to deliver faster platforms, better player experiences, and more innovative products, success increasingly depends on building flexible technology, strong teams, and scalable business strategies that can adapt to constant change.
In this exclusive interview with iGaming News Today, Krzysztof Opałka, Founder of Tequity, reflects on his journey from software development to technology leadership, shares lessons from helping companies scale, explains how AI is reshaping product development, and discusses the trends that will define the next chapter of the global iGaming industry.
Q1. Your career has evolved from hands-on development roles to leading technology teams and eventually founding Tequity. What key experiences have shaped your leadership philosophy and approach to building businesses today?
Krzysztof:
I was lucky to be part of projects and companies where I was involved from the very early stages. That allowed me to learn how to build something from nothing and observe every stage of development-from building the product to launching it and promoting it.
I have seen ups and downs, successes and failures, and experienced many of them myself. Thanks to that, I can often predict two or three steps ahead because I have seen similar situations before.
My leadership style is very direct, non-bureaucratic, fast-moving and result-oriented. I believe this approach works especially well in startups.
Q2. Having worked across product, technology, and executive leadership positions, how do you balance innovation with the need for operational efficiency and sustainable growth?
Krzysztof:
Innovation is great, but only if it improves the overall player experience. There are many “innovations” that players simply do not welcome.
One thing I have learned over the years is the importance of staying humble. It is easy to fall into the trap of thinking you are always right.
For me, it can often be more innovative to reduce loading time by 25% than to introduce a new game mechanic that no one really cares about.
Q3. Through Tequity and your work as a Fractional CTO, you’ve helped companies navigate complex technology challenges. What are the most common mistakes businesses make when scaling, and how can they avoid them?
Krzysztof:
From a technology perspective, the biggest mistake is overcomplicating things. Complexity is your enemy. It makes systems harder to maintain, scale and extend.
One of my favourite quotes says: “Perfection is achieved not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.”
Outside of technology, I think companies often fail in marketing and lack a clear, reliable brand narrative. You need to tell a story, and that story needs to be interesting enough for people to want to follow it.
Q4. The iGaming industry is becoming increasingly competitive and technology-driven. In your view, what factors truly differentiate successful operators and suppliers in today’s market?
Krzysztof:
The expectation is that technology should help you drive the business. However, very often I see legacy systems doing the opposite-preventing business expansion, whether that means entering new markets or launching new products.
Some of the stories I have heard are quite unbelievable. Flexible technology can give companies a real edge, allowing them to move faster and gain market share more quickly.
We all know this industry moves fast. Companies founded only a few years ago can quickly take over and dominate. We have seen plenty of examples on both the B2B and B2C sides. The companies that win are always the ones with better technology, not worse technology, and the ones moving faster, not slower.
Q5. You’ve built and led multidisciplinary teams throughout your career. What qualities do you believe are essential for creating high-performing teams capable of driving long-term success?
Krzysztof:
I always want everyone in the team to understand the broader context-what we do, why we do it, and what we want to achieve. Knowing only the task is not enough.
That is why we hire people who are independent, self-sufficient and do not need babysitting or constant guidance.
I also encourage people to make decisions. I never punish someone for making the wrong decision if it was made with good intentions.
Q6. Emerging technologies such as AI and automation are reshaping industries worldwide. How do you see these innovations influencing the future of gaming, particularly in enhancing products and customer experiences?
Krzysztof:
AI makes it faster, cheaper and easier to create products. But the market is already flooded with content, so I think the mistake people make is assuming that 10 times more content will automatically drive sales.
It will become increasingly important to create high-quality content and high-quality experiences, rather than simply producing even more mediocre games.
Q7. Looking ahead, what major trends or challenges do you believe will define the next phase of the global iGaming industry, and how is Tequity positioning itself to adapt and thrive in that evolving landscape?
Krzysztof:
Given the decreasing cost of development, I believe we will see more focus on unique experiences and bespoke content. In three to four years, I think half of the casino lobby could be made up of exclusive games.
That is why we launched Tequity Exclusives-to position ourselves as a leading technology partner capable of delivering both platform infrastructure and custom games, based on our tools, experience and know-how.
