GLI Adds a Gaming Industry Veteran – Gavin Isaacs Joins Its Board With 25+ Years of Global Experience
Gaming Laboratories International (GLI) has appointed gaming industry veteran Gavin Isaacs to its Board of Directors in an advisory position, with the formal appointment subject to regulatory review and approval. The move brings one of the sector’s most recognised executives into GLI’s governance at a point when the testing and certification firm is actively mapping its next phase of growth.
Isaacs joins a board that includes CVC, represented by Alexander Heerkens Thijssen, Matt Turner and Zach Kelly, alongside GLI President and CEO James Maida. The appointment lands three months after GLI and CVC announced a strategic partnership, and it reads as the governance layer forming around that investment.
Who Gavin Isaacs Brings to the GLI Board
Isaacs is a seasoned CEO and board director with more than 25 years of leadership across the global gaming, iGaming, sports betting and lottery industries. His career spans public and private companies, from multi billion-dollar global enterprises to startups, and includes strategic mergers and acquisitions totalling over $10 billion. GLI’s announcement frames him as a leader known for driving transformational growth and delivering shareholder value through both organic expansion and turnarounds.
His industry recognition runs deep. He received the Casino Management Association Gaming Professional of the Year Award in 2004, the International Gaming Awards Outstanding Contribution Award in 2017, and the AGEM Jens Halle Memorial Award in 2018, before his induction into the American Gaming Association Hall of Fame in 2022.
How the CVC Partnership Frames This Gaming Appointment
The timing is the story worth reading. In June, GLI and global investment firm CVC announced a strategic partnership to support GLI’s continued growth and long-term development, with CVC completing an investment into GLI and related entities through its long duration Strategic Opportunities platform.
An investment brings capital. A board appointment of Isaacs’s standing brings direction and industry weight. Placing the two side by side, the governance structure around GLI now looks built to carry the ambitions the leadership has set out.
What James Maida and Gavin Isaacs Said
Both principals framed the appointment around GLI’s forward trajectory.
“I am thrilled that Gavin is joining the GLI board. The board and I as CEO have ambitious plans that will further propel GLI globally over the next several years, and Gavin’s decades of experience, vision, and history of innovation make him a perfect partner as we move forward,” Maida said.
Isaacs, for his part, tied his arrival to the scale of what GLI has already built:
“I am excited to join the Board of GLI as it embarks on its next stage of growth. I look forward to working with James Maida and CVC as we build upon the incredible business built by James and his team over the past 37 years,” Isaacs said.
GLI’s Standing in the Regulated Gaming Supply Chain
The appointment matters because of where GLI sits. Since 1989, the company has certified nearly 2 million items and tested equipment for more than 710 jurisdictions, resulting in over 5.3 million approved gaming components. It operates a global network of laboratories across six continents, holding US and international accreditations for compliance with ISO/IEC standards in the gaming, wagering and lottery industries.
That position, between suppliers, operators and regulators, is precisely why board direction at GLI carries beyond the company itself.
What Does This Mean for the Regulated Gaming Market?
For suppliers, operators and regulators who rely on GLI’s certifications, continuity and direction at board level are reassuring signals rather than disruptive ones. The pairing of CVC’s capital with an executive of Isaacs’s experience points to a company preparing to expand its global footprint rather than simply maintain it, though the advisory appointment still rests on regulatory approval before it is formalised. The clearer takeaway is that GLI is putting governance weight behind its growth ambitions, and in an industry where trusted certification underpins market confidence, who guides that trusted party is worth watching.
