LCKY Group Appoints Neil Chetcuti as General Counsel to Support Regulated-Market Expansion
LCKY Group, the iGaming company behind a number of award-winning online casinos in regulated markets across Europe and North America, has appointed Neil Chetcuti as its new General Counsel. He joins to lead the group’s legal function and support its international operations as the business continues to scale.
The timing is telling. LCKY currently oversees a portfolio of eight international casino brands, including the recently acquired RoyalCasino, and a senior in-house legal appointment at this stage usually points to a company building the infrastructure it needs for its next phase of growth rather than simply filling a gap.
Why an iGaming General Counsel matters for LCKY Group now
For an operator expanding across multiple regulated jurisdictions, legal and compliance work is not a background task. Every new market brings its own licensing requirements, advertising rules and consumer-protection obligations. Bringing that capability in-house, under a dedicated General Counsel, gives LCKY Group a single point of ownership for how the company navigates regulation as it grows across Europe and North America.
What Neil Chetcuti brings to the LCKY Group legal function
Neil began his legal career in private practice before moving in-house with a local law firm, where he progressed to Senior Associate in 2018. He then spent over six years with Gaming Innovation Group, where his key function was Senior Legal Counsel, acquiring extensive experience across commercial, corporate and regulatory matters. Most recently he served as Head of Legal at Sportingtech Ltd, overseeing a broad range of strategic and commercial requirements while supporting the business across its international operations.
In total, he arrives with more than 10 years of legal experience, including eight specialising exclusively within the iGaming industry. In his new role he will provide support to all branches of the business and lead the legal function to ensure compliance with all relevant local regulation.
What the appointment signals for LCKY Group’s online casino expansion
Commenting on his new position, Neil Chetcuti, General Counsel at LCKY Group, said: “I’m thrilled to be joining LCKY Group as General Counsel during what is undoubtedly a very exciting time for the business. The group’s portfolio has recently grown with the acquisition of RoyalCasino and there are still many more exciting expansion opportunities to come, so I’m really looking forward to using my experience to lead our legal function and support all international operations as we continue to scale in future.”
Richard Brown, Chief Executive Officer at LCKY Group, said: “Neil joins LCKY Group with a wealth of iGaming-specific legal experience, and I have no doubt this will serve him well in his new role as General Counsel. As a company that’s always on the lookout for new opportunities to expand in regulated markets, we need a legal function that’s capable of supporting these ambitions, and with Neil driving our strategy, I’m sure we’ll be in very good hands moving forward.”
The reality behind scaling an eight-brand online casino portfolio
It is worth being honest about the scale of the task. Running eight international casino brands across different regulated markets means eight sets of obligations that rarely move in step with one another. Integrating a newly acquired brand like RoyalCasino adds further work, from aligning licensing to harmonising compliance processes. A single appointment does not resolve all of that overnight, and the real test of the hire will be how smoothly the group absorbs new markets and brands over the coming period.
What Does This Mean for the Regulated iGaming Market?
For the wider industry, the appointment is a small signal of a larger shift. As operators compete to enter and hold ground in regulated markets, the strength of a company’s legal and compliance function is becoming part of how it grows, not just how it protects itself. LCKY Group is backing that view by putting experienced legal leadership at the centre of its expansion plans. The lasting takeaway is simple: in regulated iGaming, the operators that scale well are increasingly the ones that treat legal capability as a growth asset from the outset.
