SEK 1.96B Revenue, 13% Profit Growth: Anna Johnson Says Svenska Spel Delivered Its Best Q2 Since 2019

Svenska Spel Reports 7% Revenue Growth in Q2 2026 | iGaming News Today

Svenska Spel reported stronger second-quarter results for 2026, growing revenue and profit while outperforming the pace of Sweden’s regulated gambling market. President and CEO Anna Johnson described the period as the company’s best second quarter since the re-regulation of the Swedish gaming market in 2019, supported by continued momentum across lottery, sportsbook and casino products, as well as higher customer engagement during the FIFA World Cup.

The company’s performance came against a broadly flat market. According to the latest available figures published by Spelinspektionen, Sweden’s regulated gambling market generated SEK 6.7 billion in the first quarter of 2026, growing just over 1% year on year. Against that backdrop, Svenska Spel’s 7% growth in the second quarter ran well ahead of the market’s most recently reported pace.

For the quarter ended 30 June 2026, Svenska Spel reported net gaming revenue of SEK 1.963 billion, up 7% from SEK 1.839 billion a year earlier. Operating profit increased 13% to SEK 617 million, while the operating margin improved to 31% from 30% in the second quarter of 2025. According to Svenska Spel, favorable external conditions, particularly the FIFA World Cup, together with continued investment in its customer offering and digital channels, contributed to the quarter’s performance.

Tur (Lottery) and Sport & Casino Lead Growth

The company’s strongest contributions came from its Tur (Lottery) and Sport & Casino business areas, both of which recorded year-on-year revenue growth during the quarter.

Net gaming revenue in the Tur segment increased 7% compared with the second quarter of 2025. Svenska Spel said a high Eurojackpot jackpot in May contributed to a record month for revenue, while Lotto also continued to perform well. Triss faced tougher year-on-year comparisons because Easter occurred earlier this year, affecting sales patterns.

The Sport & Casino business also delivered solid growth, with net gaming revenue increasing 11% year on year. Svenska Spel attributed the improvement to stronger performances in both sports betting and casino, supported by an expanded football betting offering and customer campaigns during the FIFA World Cup.

FIFA World Cup Boosts Customer Activity

The FIFA World Cup was one of the quarter’s biggest drivers of customer engagement.

According to the company, Sport & Casino revenue increased 24% in June compared with the same month last year, while sports betting revenue increased 135% year on year. The number of active players rose 36%, while new customer registrations increased by more than 340% compared with June 2025. Svenska Spel also said its sales targets linked to the tournament had already been exceeded through 6 July, indicating continued momentum beyond the quarter end.

Online Business Continues to Expand

Digital gaming remained the company’s largest growth engine.

Online revenue increased 14% year on year and accounted for 67% of the Group’s total net gaming revenue during the quarter, compared with 62% a year earlier.

By contrast, the Vegas business reported a 16% decline in net gaming revenue. Svenska Spel attributed the decrease to the continued migration of customers towards online gaming and a lower number of business partners operating Vegas machines.

First Half Performance Strengthens

For the first six months of 2026, Svenska Spel reported net gaming revenue of SEK 3.843 billion, an increase of 4% compared with the corresponding period in 2025. Operating profit rose 8% to SEK 1.276 billion, while the operating margin improved to 33% from 32%. Profit from continuing operations reached SEK 1.066 billion.

The company’s online business also continued to expand during the first half. Online revenue increased 11% year on year and represented 67% of Group revenue, up from 63% in the first half of 2025.

Svenska Spel also reported that healthy revenue, its measure of net gaming revenue generated from customers assessed as being at a low risk of gambling harm, remained at 94% during both the second quarter and the first half of the year, unchanged from 2025.

Casino Cosmopol Sale Lifts Reported Profit

During the first half, Svenska Spel completed the sale of the former Casino Cosmopol property in Stockholm to Alecta Fastigheter. The transaction generated a capital gain of SEK 288 million, contributing to total profit of SEK 1.353 billion for the first six months of the year. Profit from continuing operations amounted to SEK 1.066 billion, with the property transaction recognised under discontinued operations.

CEO: Sustainable Growth Remains the Priority

Commenting on the results, Anna Johnson said Svenska Spel had delivered its best second quarter since the Swedish market was re-regulated in 2019. She said favourable external factors, particularly the FIFA World Cup, supported the quarter’s performance, while emphasising that maintaining sustainable growth will require continued focus.

Johnson said the company will continue strengthening its customer offering, improving the gaming experience and investing in its product portfolio while maintaining responsible gaming as a core part of Svenska Spel’s long-term strategy.

Regulatory Landscape Continues to Evolve

The quarter also coincided with further regulatory developments across Sweden’s gambling market. In May, the country’s extended credit ban came into effect for licensed operators, which Svenska Spel said it implemented during the quarter in line with the new requirements.

In June, Spelinspektionen opened a consultation on updated responsible gambling regulations, introducing more detailed requirements for identifying and following up on risky gambling behaviour, including specific provisions for players aged 18 to 24.

The consultation followed a review by the Swedish National Audit Office (Riksrevisionen), which identified shortcomings in the state’s gambling harm prevention work, particularly regarding children and young people.
