Jamul Casino Resort has appointed Marcus Lucero as its new Vice President of Casino Operations, handing him full oversight of the property’s gaming floor at a defining moment in its growth story. Lucero takes charge of slots, table games, poker and player development for the Southern California property, which is now working to convert its recent resort expansion into stronger gaming performance.

Two Decades of Tribal Gaming Leadership Experience
Lucero arrives with serious credentials in California Tribal gaming. He most recently served as Vice President of Casino Operations at Morongo Casino Resort & Spa, where he ran casino floor operations at one of the largest Tribal gaming properties in the state. Before Morongo, he held senior leadership roles at Soboba Casino Resort and Valley View Casino & Hotel.
That career path matters. Lucero has spent more than twenty years inside the exact competitive market Jamul operates in. He knows the Southern California player. He knows the regional loyalty battles. He has run floors against the same competitors Jamul faces every weekend.
Casino Operations Mandate Covers Slots, Table Games and Player Development
The scale of the role is substantial. Lucero will oversee nearly 1,700 slot machines, more than 50 live table games and the property’s poker room. His remit also includes player development, which puts him in direct control of the loyalty and host programmes designed to grow visitation frequency and spend among high-value guests.
That last piece is the one to watch. With expanded amenities now in place, the commercial question shifts from attracting new visitors to deepening the value of each one. Player development is where that battle gets won or lost.
The Appointment Follows Jamul’s $270m Hotel and Resort Expansion
Context explains the hire. In August 2025, Jamul unveiled a $270m, 200-room hotel expansion that added new dining venues, retail space, a rooftop pool and a full-service spa. The development helped the property earn AAA Four Diamond status and completed its transformation from casino to full-scale resort destination.
Owned and operated by Jamul Indian Village Development Corporation, the enterprise arm of the Jamul Indian Village Tribe, the property employs more than 1,500 people and remains one of the closest casino resorts to downtown San Diego. Proximity is an asset. Converting it into gaming revenue is the assignment.
