Awager BetMGM Partnership Brings Real Land-Based Slot Machines Online in New Jersey
Players in New Jersey can now spin actual physical slot machines, streamed live a format that sits apart from both RNG slots and live dealer.
For years, online casino content has moved on two tracks. RNG slots on one side. Live dealer tables on the other. On 14 August 2026, the Awager BetMGM partnership quietly opened up a third. Awager, an Aristocrat company, has made its live-streamed slots available to BetMGM and Borgata Online players in New Jersey, letting them reach out and play real, physical slot machines from a distance, through a live feed. And the parent behind it is no newcomer to reinvention. Aristocrat has spent seven decades remaking itself from a land-based machine maker into a diversified gaming and digital business, which makes this kind of hybrid product feel less like a gamble and more like a next step.
Two content categories, and the gap between them
Live dealer fixed the authenticity problem for table games. Real dealer. Real cards. Real wheel, spinning in front of you. Slots never got that treatment. An online slot has always been a software copy of the machine, not the machine on the floor. What Awager does is close that gap,by streaming the actual cabinet. That’s the story here. Not the deal itself, but the category it hints at.
Fifty cabinets, live 4K, and what’s inside the launch
Players connect through Awager’s own platform to physical slot machines sitting in regulated studios. The feed runs in live 4K, with what the company calls authentic true machine audio and real-time responsiveness. Every spin mirrors the land-based game exactly.
At launch, that’s 50 cabinets and more than 30 unique titles. Among them, Aristocrat Gaming names any operator will know from the floor, Buffalo Ascension and Lightning Link.
Superna Kalle, Chief Strategy Officer at Aristocrat, put it this way: “Bringing land-based play online is at the heart of our mission to deliver a truly authentic casino experience straight to players’ devices.” Strip out the mission language and the logic is plain. Aristocrat is finding a new online home for its own land-based library, one that doesn’t fight its RNG catalogue for space, but sits alongside it.
What a platform head actually does with this
Here’s the part operators care about. This isn’t an RNG slot you plug into an existing feed. It isn’t a live dealer table either. It’s its own product, with real studio infrastructure sitting behind it. Awager runs multiple studios across North America and Europe, built on more than ten years of the technology.
Rob Passerino, Director of Gaming at BetMGM, called it “an exciting new way for our players to engage with slot machines digitally,” and described the launch as “just the beginning of our partnership.” BetMGM has the room to experiment here, too. The operator posted iGaming-led growth in its most recent quarterly numbers, which is exactly the kind of position that lets a platform test a new content format without betting the quarter on it. For a content director, the real decision is mix — does streamed land-based play earn its own shelf and budget, or get trialled and quietly parked? New Jersey is the place to find that out. It’s where US operators usually prove a format before they scale it.
The honest limitation
A launch is not a category. Fifty cabinets and 30-plus titles make a real product, but it’s a starting line. And the economics of studio streaming, hardware, floor space, latency once volume climbs, aren’t the economics of serving RNG content. The PR says nothing about uptake, exclusivity, or where this goes after New Jersey. Whether it grows into a genuine third pillar or stays a clever add-on is, for now, unproven.
Where the Awager BetMGM partnership heads from here
Both companies have called this the beginning, not the whole story. That points to more cabinets, more titles, and, given Awager’s stated focus on regulated markets worldwide, more jurisdictions over the next 6 to 12 months. For rival suppliers, the signal is clear enough. Authenticity is turning into a slots battleground the way it already is for tables. The thing to watch is whether other operators follow BetMGM in, or hang back until the numbers make the case for them.
