DraftKings may soon put an end to its legal dispute with MLB’s player union.
DraftKings and Major League Baseball Players Inc. (MLBPI) have jointly requested a 30-day pause in discovery as they work toward a potential settlement. The case involves allegations that DraftKings and other sportsbooks used MLB player images without obtaining proper licenses from the MLBPA’s commercial subsidiary.
MLBPI originally filed the lawsuit in 2024, targeting several operators. While FanDuel settled early through a licensing agreement, DraftKings continued to defend itself in court. However, recent filings reveal that both parties are actively negotiating and close to a resolution. If settlement discussions succeed, the case could mark a pivotal shift in how player likeness rights are treated in U.S. betting markets.
