In a landmark decision, Coljuegos has awarded the concession for Keno, a lottery-style game to four regional operators, making Colombia one of the first regulated Latin American markets to incorporate blockchain technology into public gaming. The initiative is expected to generate COP485bn (€107m) in revenues over the next five years, with all proceeds directed to the country’s subsidised healthcare system.
Coljuegos President Marco Emilio Hincapié highlighted that blockchain integration ensures every ticket and transaction is traceable, enhancing transparency and reinforcing public trust. The concession process was open and competitive, ensuring inclusivity among industry participants. The four chosen operators will oversee Keno operations across all 32 departments of Colombia, marking a nationwide rollout.
Set for official launch in January 2026 after a four-month training period, the initiative plans to deploy more than 16,000 sales terminals. The game’s format allows players to select 10 numbers from 80, with frequent draws held every six to ten minutes. Results will be broadcast via YouTube and official digital platforms, ensuring accessibility and engagement.
By merging blockchain technology with a national lottery-style framework, Coljuegos is positioning Colombia as a leader in gaming innovation and regulatory modernization. The launch underscores a broader governmental strategy to expand healthcare funding while driving digital transformation within the iGaming sector.
