Exclusive: Why Great Casino Games Start with Product Discipline, Says Formula Spin CEO Oleg Galushko
The online casino industry is becoming increasingly competitive as player expectations evolve, new content enters the market every day, and operators search for products that can stand out in crowded lobbies. In this environment, success depends not only on creativity, but also on product discipline, commercial execution, compliance, and long-term player value.
In this exclusive interview with iGaming News Today, Oleg Galushko, CEO of Formula Spin, reflects on his journey from product management to executive leadership and shares his perspective on game development, player behavior, responsible gaming, commercialization challenges, and the future of online casino entertainment.
1. You’ve worked across product management, product leadership, and now as CEO. Looking back, how has that journey shaped the way you approach building successful gaming products?
Oleg :
Coming up through product taught me discipline: validate with data, not opinion, and keep the player at the center of every decision, not just the roadmap, but budget and priorities too. As CEO, that hasn’t changed. I still run company decisions through a product lens rather than a purely financial one.
2. The online casino industry is becoming more competitive every year. In your opinion, what makes a game stand out in such a crowded market?
Oleg :
It’s not volume, it’s recognizability and consistency. A game needs to communicate a clear, distinct experience within the first few seconds, both visually and mechanically. Technical performance (load speed, RTP stability, no bugs) is table stakes now, not a differentiator. What actually stands out is original mechanics combined with operational discipline: timely updates, localization, and strong partner support.
3. Player expectations are constantly evolving. How do you identify what players really want before developing a new game?
Oleg :
We combine behavioral data from existing titles with direct market feedback, from operators and from monitoring trends in adjacent markets. Pilot launches matter most: testing a mechanic with a limited audience before committing to full production. That’s how we reduce the risk of building something the market doesn’t actually want.
4. AI is changing the way games are designed and developed. How do you see AI influencing game creation and player experiences over the next few years?
Oleg :
AI is affecting several layers at once. It’s speeding up content production (art, animation, sound), enabling finer personalization of gameplay, and improving math balancing through simulation. Over the next few years, I expect faster iteration cycles and more targeted content adaptation for player segments, all within the regulatory limits that apply to personalization in gambling.
5. You’ve spent much of your career leading product teams. What do you think is the biggest challenge in turning a good game idea into a successful commercial product?
Oleg :
The real challenge is converting a creative idea into a mathematically balanced, commercially viable product while meeting requirements across multiple jurisdictions simultaneously. Good ideas often break against compliance constraints, operator integration requirements, or certification timelines. Getting to market successfully requires product, legal, and commercial teams working in sync from day one, not in sequence.
6. As games become more engaging and personalised, how can developers continue to innovate while supporting responsible gaming?
Oleg :
Innovation and responsible gaming aren’t technically in conflict. The conflict only shows up with poor design. Personalization should be used to embed control tools, limits, pauses, behavioral signals, not just to drive engagement. We treat responsible gaming as a product requirement from the design stage, not a compliance layer bolted on afterward.
7. Looking toward 2027 and beyond, what do you think the next generation of online casino games will look like?
Oleg :
I expect a clearer convergence between iGaming and interactive entertainment: deeper narrative mechanics, more flexible math tuned to player segments, and tighter integration with live formats. Technologically, AI’s role in content production and balancing will keep growing. That said, the market’s regulatory structure will stay conservative, which sets the real pace at which these changes can actually roll out.
